Experience industrial history!

There is much to discover in the 17-hectare Museumspark – at every turn, you will see monuments to an industrial history that began here in Rüdersdorf over 750 years ago. While rocks from around 245 million years of geological history continue to be mined in the active open-cast mine next door, you can experience earth and mining history up close on our guided tours. Embark on a journey of discovery through time.​

The tours are led by expert guides who will give you an exciting insight into the historical background and answer any questions you may have. With spectacular photo opportunities, well-maintained forest and park areas, interestingly curated exhibition rooms, and surrounded by water, history is really fun when you experience it firsthand.

The walk takes you past a number of historic buildings and facilities that were used to transport or process limestone from the adjacent open-cast mine. Our technical structures, which were built according to designs by famous architects such as Schinkel, form a unique architectural ensemble. It is one of Germany's most important industrial monuments.

Our guests also learn how the workers in this industry lived and worked back then. With the help of old photos and many stories, times long past are brought to life and made tangible.

During the one-hour tour, our guests explore the front part of the museum park, with the chamber kilns, the Rumford kilns, and the log cabin. The two-hour tour continues to the rear section, to the rope pulley pillar and the imposing shaft kiln battery, the “cathedral of lime.”​
