Laboratory exhibition

The former main laboratory building at Heinitzstraße 45 was built in 1936 and used as a laboratory for over fifty years. The sgraffito frieze running just below the roof depicts several motifs from the surrounding area—most notably those that point to the building's purpose: quality assurance and the further development of cement and concrete.

The quality of building materials is crucial for the stability and durability of structures. Houses, roads, tunnels, and bridges built from cement and concrete must be durable, long-lasting, and safe. At the same time, the production of building materials should be cost-effective, resource-efficient, and have the smallest possible ecological footprint. To ensure this, laboratories are located in the building materials industry's factories. They are integral and important sites within these industries.

The new laboratory exhibition is located in the corridor of the building and lets you

numerous pictures from the everyday laboratory life of the laboratory building and the surrounding laboratories

and educational institutions. The exhibition touches on the one hand

social aspects of working life, including the high proportion of women and the exchange

with foreign contract workers during the GDR period. On the other hand, physical

and chemical testing methods are presented, most of which are still common practice in laboratories today.
