Mining educational trail
Mining in the North German lowlands? In Rüdersdorf, this has been the case since the late Middle Ages, when Cistercian monks recognized the value of the limestone found only here. Follow our ten-part mining trail with our tour guides or on your own.
The trail begins at one of our most spectacular spots: the viewing platform in the active limestone quarry (Station 1). On weekdays at lunchtime, you can even witness a blasting. Passing the Heinitz Tunnel, where the local mining association is based, the nature trail covers all aspects of mining in Rüdersdorf:
Station 2: Limestone extraction in the Rüdersdorf open-cast mine;
Station 3: The Heinitz Tunnel;
Station 4: Bell tower;
Station 5: Nature in the open-cast mine;
Station 6: The geological features of Rüdersdorf;
Station 7: Lime and cement production in Rüdersdorf today;
Station 8: The importance of water in open-cast mining;
Station 9: Mobile devices within the open-cast mine;
Station 10: Cement: End products from Rüdersdorf
