Ropeway diversion station

What looks like a covered steel bridge is part of an old cable car system that was built in 1953. For around 30 years, its wagons traveled from the eastern part of the open-cast mine, formerly known as Alvenslebenbruch, to cement plant 3. This plant was located beyond the Mühlenfließ stream in the Tasdorf district, where DHL's large freight mail center stands today. A straight cable car connection between the eastern open-cast mine and the cement plant would have crossed a residential area and was therefore out of the question. This is why this deflection station was built, designed to withstand the enormous tension of the wire ropes and the load of the wagons loaded with limestone.

At the top of the accessible platform, you can see the deflection mechanism with the remains of the massive wire ropes, the only preserved mine car, and a wonderful view of the surrounding area with the open-cast mine. Photography enthusiasts will get their money's worth here – and if you are patient, with a little luck you can photograph birds, deer, or other animals in the surrounding vegetation.
