Geo Tour

Discover Earth's history

Nothing is more exciting than a treasure hunt. Our treasure trove is over 250 million years old and filled to the brim—the Rüdersdorf limestone quarry. After a brief scientific introduction at the Otto Torell House, our expert tour guides will take you on a geological tour of the active quarry in Rüdersdorf.

At the collection point, it's time to roll up your sleeves and keep your eyes peeled. We can't promise that you'll find a dinosaur here, but fossils are literally as plentiful as sand on the beach. Incidentally, that's exactly what brought the animals we find here to this place.

250 million years ago, this area was covered by the Triassic Sea, and its former inhabitants can now be found in the rock. Our geological tour is a little adventure with lots of discoveries. Our tour guides will of course be on hand to offer advice and assistance during the tour.

As the open-cast mine is active, special safety regulations apply. Helmets, goggles, high-visibility vests, and hammers are provided. Ankle-high, sturdy shoes are recommended. The open-cast mine site is exposed to the weather, so dust may form during long periods of dry weather and it may be slippery/muddy during prolonged periods of rain. Please take this into account when choosing your clothing and date. The terrain is steep and the tour requires a good level of physical fitness. By participating in the geological tour, you agree to the safety regulations.

These can be viewed on site or downloaded here.
